Richard was further inspired in 1996 by a conversation with Frank VanderSloot, Melaleuca's president and CEO, and quickly established relationships with authors Dr. Clark Hansen and Debra Lynn Dadd to begin the process of expanding his company's line of publications. In 1996, Richard got the idea for a book about the Melaleuca company history. Over the years, he had collected information from various sources on the history of the company, and the background of Frank VanderSloot. Everything he learned convinced him further that there was something special about this company, and the story needed to be told — especially for those who were new to Melaleuca. After almost two years of research and numerous drafts, Built on Solid Principles, The Melaleuca Story was finally published in 1998.

Dr. Clark Hansen, NMD
Dr. Hansen is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, The Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association, The American Preventive Medical Association, The American Holistic Medical Association, and The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Karen MacKenzie Karen also works for various medical organizations as a researcher. She has a special interest in alternative health issues and currently writes and researches the Research Report for us here at RM Barry Publications.

Richard Barry joined Melaleuca in 1991. He and his wife, Tina, achieved Director III status gradually working part-time before Richard decided to dedicate himself to publishing. Working in the chemical industry, Richard developed a keen interest in the health effects of toxic chemicals, many of which appear in common household products. Richard's first pamphlet, Let's Stop Poisoning Our Children! quickly became very popular and RM Barry Publications was born. This first pamphlet has now sold well over 2 million copies!

Since self-publishing her first book in 1982, Debra has been a pioneering consumer advocate, addressing how our consumer and lifestyle choices affect our health and the environment. She has written seven books, including Home Safe Home. She has been interviewed on numerous local television and radio shows in major markets across the country. Her national appearances include the Today show, Geraldo, CNN, and NPR. She has been featured in articles appearing in USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, and many local newspapers.
Clark Hansen, NMD, is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with a very busy private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona. He graduated from the John Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Seattle, Washington, in 1986. Since 1988, Dr. Hansen has served as the President and Medical Director of The Arizona Institute of Natural Medicine, a medical clinic that attracts patients from all over the U.S. In 1992, he helped co-found the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences, in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he serves as a member of the Board of Advisors and as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. 
Karen MacKenzie is a recognized authority on tea tree oil, having researched this amazing oil for over 12 years and written two books on the subject, in addition to various other books on complementary health. In 1996, she founded the Tea Tree Oil Information Service in Great Britain to help spread the word and assist medical professionals as well as the general public in using this valuable natural gift. 
Dallas Clouatre, PhD, is a prominent nutrition industry consultant with clients in the US, Europe and Asia. He earned his BA from Stanford and his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. A member of the American College of Nutrition and the holder of numerous United States Patents, he is a frequent contributor to magazines, including Let's Live, Whole Foods Magazine, Nutrition Business Journal, Vitamin Retailer, TotalHealth and other consumer- and business-oriented health publications, as well as to academic journals. 
Sandy Botkin is a tax lawyer, a CPA and a former IRS attorney. As an IRS attorney he worked for the Chief Counsels office of the IRS in Washington and trained other lawyers on how to get more tax dollars from the public.
