Dental Benefits of Melaleuca oil, Myrrh, and Propolis

Melaleuca Oil

The study Efficacy of melaleuca oral solution for the treatment of fluconazole refractory oral candidiasis in AIDS patients, shows that an oral solution containing melaleuca oil is effective in the treatment of candidiasis in AIDS patients.

The research abstract The antimicrobial activity of essential oils and essential oil components towards oral bacteria, shows that the antimicrobial activity of tea tree oil is effective in fighting oral bacteria.

Susceptibility of oral bacteria to Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil in vitro is another study which indicates that a range of oral bacteria are susceptible to tea tree oil.

Myrrh
According to the HealthWorld article Myrrh, Myrrh is effective in treating a wide range of conditions where an anti-microbial agent is needed.

This abstract, Local anaesthetic, antibacterial and antifungal properties of sesquiterpenes from myrrh, shows that the antibacterial and antifungal properties of myrrh are effective in treating Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.

Propolis

This study, In vitro antimicrobial activity of propolis and Arnica montana against oral pathogens, conducted by the School of Dentistry of Piracicaba in Brazil, shows that propolis extract significantly inhibited all fifteen of the microorganisms tested, including candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus.

Results of the study Antimicrobial activity of propolis on oral microorganisms show that propolis inhibits enzyme activity and growth of the bacteria of oral microorganisms, which cause formation of dental caries.

The abstract The effect of propolis on dentinal hypersensitivity and level of satisfaction among patients from a university hospital Riyadh, Saudi Arabia shows that, in a clinical trial, people with dentinal hypersensitivity were highly satisfied with the desensitizing effect of Propolis.
